Wow, it's been a while, sorry.

What a month August has been. We finished July and just seemed to continue right on through with August. We enjoyed some boys from our neck of the woods. George Clearwater and crew spent about a week with us and it was sure great to have all of you.

We are just about finished up here and it is nice that summer decide to show itself around here lately. It has been a rather wet summer. We as a family got the opportunity to go fishing with some of our local guest and friends the Steindorf's. I ended up catching a 92 pound Halibut and Dustin and I would have loved for Tami to catch it but they both said they were just happy to be on the boat with us while we caught it.

July -Mid Season Fun

It is already mid July and the summer is about half over. Hard to believe it has gone by that fast. Fishing on the Kasilof has been pretty good lately. We are getting about 1 fish a boat on the Kenai so we are hoping that fishing continues to pick up for the next few weeks. They Sockeye's are starting to run in the river and Halibut fish is good. Other than the nasty weather we had last week.

Sorry for not updating in a long while.

Fishing this past week went well. Here are some photos of this weeks catches. The Kenai opened back up and as of today opened for bait. Fishing on the Kasilof was good today. Chris landed 6 out of 8 today and Pop landed 3 out of 6. Happy Campers We Had!!

In Dustin's boat, they landed a nice 44" King Salmon but they decided to release it back into the river. Spawn Baby, Spawn!!

June 7th-Fishing Continue's

Despite the Kenai River closer for a while due to low number of fish count entering the river, fishing continue's. We are fishing the Saltwater for Halibut, the Kasilof for Kings, Fly outs for Sockeye (Red) Salmon and other species and the Kenai will open for Trout fishing in a couple of days.

Chris had a great day on the Kasilof yesterday and will get those photos on the site tomorrow.

May 31, 2010-Alaska Halibut at it's Finest

Well today was a good day on the ocean. We had Jim and Sandy and Ray and Tim who had a stellar day of fishing. No complaints from any of them on the days catch. Maybe just a grunt or two of the hard work it was reeling them suckers in.

Also Chris took your crew from overseas out and ended hooking and landing a few and took home a nice Salmon. Some smiling faces you will see!!

May 17, Alaska starting to come together

Sorry it has been so long, The early season up here is brutal. We are just now starting to get things together. I fished the Kasilof yesterday and got one nice chinnook, and Our boy Chris Carson fished it on saturday and also got one, so there is a few fish around, it will get better with every Tide.

Jessica and I took a couple folks out on the badger on saturday, and had a hell of a catch for may. Fast bite and some nice fish. I will get back in the swing of things soon. The lodge is looking sweet, aunt dorthy has been working all spring getting ready to go. Another 10 days and should be one well oiled machine.

March 25, quick and Dirty.

It Rained about a half inch last night and it helped out a bit. There was two boats that put in where I did yesterday, so I went down below and there was more color in the water which helped out a bunch, not to mention no boats at all. We got 10 buy noon and called it a day. The fish bit like paranas, it was sweet.

March 24, Warm weather, good fishing.

Weather is outstanding, and fishing, if you can find some water that has not been beat, you can do well, we got quite a few today, I think 13, but 10 of those were up river where there was not another boat. The fish we found had not had a boat around them in a couple days. So it was good. I got a couple photos.

March 23, Smolts piss me off.

They piss off vig off two, and if Bob would say anything, they piss him off as well. So we had a boat full of cold pissey fellas (well two, bob not confirmed). We did manage to get a couple nice ones before we gave up fighting the good fight. We pulled quite a impressive double move, drove 20 miles back to the north and managed to save the day, we got one, and then found an awsome group that saved us, we hooked four more there, lost a couple but no matter, and bob finished off with a beautiful crome bright girl late in the day. I think we landed 7 out of 9, good enough. Luv ya boys, see you boys in the fall.

March 22, Back to work...

What a great day. Nice weather, and great fishing. Had some good boys with me as well. Dan Colvig, and his boy Bob came up, and they each caught 5 nice fish. I'll take 10 every day. All but one of our fish was an upriver fish, so that was nice. Traffic was lite, so that was also great. Just all in all a great day.

March 21, Sorry, Been a while.

Fishing has still been ok, we had a couple days off, we had a trip with Parr on the books for 18,19,20, but the guys all bailed on nate last second tipe deal, so I got to spend some much needed time with my boys and my awsome wife. We ended up going to mt shasta for the weekend with my brother, had a ball. Back to work tomorow.

March 15, Sixes cold water

Boy was the water cold today, the snow melt is going on and they did not bite at all. We got 6 fish lost a couple others and missed a few, but they just didnt bite good. Every fish we got was like a stop, then like you pulled a stick off the bottom, but nice fish. Crazey day. I have tomorow off, then back to the umpie.

march 14, Elk just fine

Man what a great day, I had my close friend Dimbo (geoff) and his daughter Maia came up, we had a great dinner, (halibut tacos, bad ass) and too many beers, but great time as always. The best part was my gift. Dimbos wife carrol nitted me a wool hat, this hat is special, not only did I sleep in it (beers) but it has all the right colors, and it gets em. the hat started the day a little slow, Maia had one shot at one early, it didnt work out, then we went a long way until we got one. Once the Ice broke we caught fire. For a while it was one after another, we ended up with 6 or 7, but did better that most, and my girl got her first steelhead. She fished great, if her dad had her talent I wouldnt have to drink so much. Luv ya dimbo. Geoff got em. I thank he hooked 5 of the 7 fish so maia's sliver belt must of rubbed off on him. Thanks for the love and great having you guys. Carrol, love the hat, Will take good care of it and wear it on all those cold mornings. Love you guys...

March 12,13. Cal or derby

Great to have a derby. Even better when you dont have to fish, not enough teams, and some rest for your boy, It rained and shit blew out. great to be with the kids, and the wife. Things will come it shape on sunday, should be good.

March 11, Cheese heads catch on.

My boys from packer land had a great day, we had some get away, and fishing was a little better than our numbers we ended up with 7 out of 9, but left a few on the table. Great time, great guys. Coming from the mid west our fishing is night and day, and our fish kick ass. Thanks guys, see you next year...

March 10th, Lots of Fish

There are plenty of fish on the Umpie. We didn't get them like we should have, the water was cold, but they bit. We only ended up with 6, but missed several, and I saw another guy kick my ass, he for sure had 8, but I know he got 12 to 14. He was on. My guys fished well, but new to the game. Humbling,

March 9, Good god it was cold

Oh boy, winter in March. Frozen solid this morning with ice, 27 degrees. Killed me. The fish didn't bite until it warmed up. We went to uncharted waters today. My buddy Carson wanted to show me some old school shit. Awesome water, couple tricky spots, got it dialed now. Shawn and Chuckie, loved the water, cool stuff. We did get our ass kicked though. Carson must have hooked 16 or 18, something like that. We hooked 12, landed 9, great day. Dixon Falls is the real deal, and I loved fishing with Chuck and Shawn. Good boys, good fishing.

March 8, Back to Umpie

Well I worked my way back to the Umpie. Fishing has just been so solid. I had a couple good buddies from south that had not fished over here. Shawn, and Chuckie had a great day, we got one about 15 maybe 16, but before we could photo Chuckie dropped it. It was classic. We just had a chill day, we cruised and never found a big pile of them, but we dinked and dunked and ended up with 10, I will take that every day. It's supposed to get cold, bummed, I hate cold it just pisses me off, Damn the cold...

March 7, Sixes Scary

I had fuck face for one more day. We wanted to go to my favorite spot, but it was too low, we went down below, got a few but they have been beat on, and very few new ones. The coast is going to be tough, we need an inch of rain, and the private boats to go away. I am back over to the Umpqua, and the main is in shape, which should spread people around. I got a photo but not going to deal with posting. I missed having Badge today, the kid was fun.

March 6, Touchy Coquille

Got Badge up for the 3rd day in a row, the kid is a trooper. Last night I told the kid sorry for getting on him throughout my rough afternoon. His reaction was amazing. Badger said, " Its ok dad, I understand, its no big deal, we just weren't catching fish" I was shocked, kiinda felt bad, but the kid gets it, gets me, pretty cool. On another note, Colvig has improved in the rod tip deal, but jesus crist it took six years, after year 5 a guy should get public bashing. ( luv ya vig) Oh and Bob take it easy on the old man... Back to my day at work, Eric, and Badge and I fished the upper Coquille, it was ok, a little touchy, wiered bites, and tired fish, We got 5, missed 3, and should have got those 3, but it is what it is. Badge got the first one, then had one eating on it, any one that can move a rod whould have got it, and the rest was Banko. Mostly resident fish, one brand new one, and 35 boats on the lower river, Hope the people go away.

Kind of an ironic day, we fished the North again but went down river and there seemed to be traffic everywhere. I was surprised to see a couple guys I have known since I was a kid, that was nice, but we were all 3 fishing together, which is not my cup of tea. Obviously I am not just going to let those guys go ahead, and vise versa, so we shared, and shared well I might add, We got 7 in the morning, and I know they got em too, maybe even a little better than I did. Dont know for sure though. Any way we did a short run and decided to go back up and run it again. Thats where it unraveled. Any way before that though, this is classic Donny went into the first set of ledges, and got one, I said "thats a nice start", he goes, I would rather catch one in the last hole, than the first hole. Ok, good enough. So I didnt get one in the last hole, and our afternoon just went down hill, lots of private boats put in behind us, guys put in with us on our second run, and every god damn time we threw out we either hung up, tangled, all of the above, rough go, and I just was just all over the place, if truth be know I fished like shit, mabey the worst I ever had for 3 hours. All in all its humbling, and my guys fished good, and badger was great for 6, he caught a couple, any way we hooked 8 for the day, lost a couple. that is a good day, it just was a little different day.

March 4, banko, badger, road trip

Well I am Brave. I decided to take badger on this trip, I had planned on fishing the Umpqa this week and Eric, he knows the family and he digs badge. Any way long drive this morning, but we had ok fishing, we hooked 6, missed a few others, and we missed some great bites, ones that you always get. Badger did catch his first steelhead, all by himself, the kid fished pretty good, 6 years old cant complain to bad, Colvig reels the wieght into the tip every time, so badge only doing it twice all day was pretty good. One thing about badger, he likes to get em, just like his old man, fishing is lame, catching is what its all about. I have created a monster. Right now he is living a dream, eating pizza in bed at the windmill inn, and drinking root beer, watching star wars. Pretty damn cool , I got some calls to make tomorow, not sure to stay or head to the coke. Dont know. Got a couple photos with my new camera, Badger loves the camera.

March 3, head ache

wow, killer head ache today. I had will and manly over for dinner, and several gallons of beer. Enjoyed it, then paid... No biggie. I thought about going to flores creek, but it was not perfect, so we went back ot the elk river, water was low, we ended up getting 3 in the upper part, then we hit a nice pack of fish on the lower end and hooked 5 more. We ended up with 7 out of 8. banner day, banner head pounding. but banner fishing. good numbers of fresh fish on the lower end, I like it...........

March 2, great fishing, great guys....

First of all, I want to reach out to my buddie colvig. This trip was supposed to be a two boat trip, but sadly Dans mother passed on the day befor the trip. Our heart goes out to Dan and his Family. We love you vig. Any way manly and will had one hell of a day, we landed 9, and the day was just perfect. It rained early, but the fish bit, and bit well, manly caught the first 2, then will got a couple. It went as good as I hoped. It should have been better, but we had a rising river in the afternoon, but all in all, great trip.. Will and Manly fished there ass off, and did great, we worked at it, but it paid off. WIll caught his biggest steelhead ever, which was around 17 lbs. Thanks boys, great time.

March 1, Salmon Season

Dont laugh, we caught almost as many salmon today as steelhead. No bull shit. I have manly and will from the richmond fire department, these guys are buddies of Colvig. Any way we fished the elk, water was clear, and had one boat ahead of us, but still I thought it should have been better. oh well, the first fish we landed was a 24 pound chinnook, blew me away, the fish kicked our ass, and was crome bright. after that we dinked our way to a few steelhead, and then we got another brand new salmon. This fish was sea lice fresh, and man what a treat, Any way, fising was good enough, the salmon made it better.

February 28,, God bless Darrin Farmer

I had darrin farmer on the books today, he does a handful of trips every year. He is our Insurance guy, and a close family friend. He gave me a day off, got to watch badger play ball, which he kicked ass, passed well, he put the ball in the bucket a few times, still a work in progress, but all in all, for 6, The kid is going to be good. Dont tell him that.

February 25,26,27, Umpqua Hangs

Sorry for not being on top of this stuff, tired, fishing every day, and driving from roseburg to brookings just to drive back has been hard on the blog page. Any way the coast got smoked, and the umpie held in there, we got fish every day, with the saturday being the toughest. Too much pressure. Any way thanks to Overton saftey for filling saturday last muinet style. I got one photo of the only fish we caught.

February 24, umpqua, Half day, full day numbers

This was Marks last day, we did a quikie, he had to be on the road to pick up a ladie friend at the Okland air port, around 9:00, We put in at amacher park got 5 and called it a day. Mark had a great trip, and we will see him in washington in april. Thanks mark good times.

February 23, Up River Coke, Awsome Numbers

Mark and I thought about going over the hill to the umpie, but last second I changed my mind. I was unimpressed with the numbers on the lower coke, and the same guys are beating the same dead horse, getting 2 or 3 a day and pounding on the poor fishies. They dont get it, leave them alone for a few days and they will come around. Any way the water was scary low, and I think the last guy that was there was me like five days prior, with the ladies. We got fish in every spot we should have and ended up hooking 11. Marks first two days of steelhead fishing were quite impressive. Remember he is one rod, so he has hooked 14 fish in two days, not bad.

February 22, Coke, Big Fish, good water

The Coke was similar to the old days, exept for the dozen boats, and only a handful of fish. When I first started fishing the coke, when the water got down to 500 cfs, there was no people, the fish relaxed and you got a handful every day. There was a little crowd, but the temp this morning was 28, so the fish didnt want to bite until 10. I had mark sauter from the mid west, and He fished salmon with us in november, so this was his first steelhead trip. Well first fish was a 20 pounder, not fair. I told him that it was a true trophy. we had a nice day got two others, and it was sunny. Rain tonight, and umpie soon.

February 21, Low clear sixes.

I decided to stay local today, had Kenny, and Tammy Stebbins of brookings today, we went north. Had a beautiful day, nice sunshine, and a quit river. We had some fish around, got one had a few other bites, the fish seemed scared, but all in all with a little luck a guy could get a handful. I thank I will be going to the umpie.

February 20, Change of pace Rogue River, Grants pass.

I Fished Todd Hobbs from cds publications with his customer Jim, The rogue was crowded, 10 private boats at every put in, and balls cold. Fog, cold fog,it sucked until 1 pm. We ended up with 3 hatchery fish, which was about parr for the creek.

February 19, Girls gone wild

I decided to take the ladies today, while my buddie brett took greg and rusty. We had a great day, exept for the fact that that song my mariah from brooks & dunn was stuck in my head all day. I couldnt remember Mariahs name and she said like the song, so you get it. Barb, first two cast, two fish, and from there we had a great day, landed Five, no crowd, great water, the boys hooked 3, we all had a good time

February 18, Sixes low clear, tough.

I had greg juell and his wife barb from lehigh, and his costomers Rusty and Mariah Martinson. The sixes was tough, The water was clear, and I had a private boat that learned some tricks from a buddy of mine. Pound everything infront of you, then when you catch up run like a sun of a bitch, chicken shit stuff. I love retired private boats that compete with us that are making a living. Any way we hooked 3 landed one, going to head north tomorow to the coke. Nice fish though.

February 17, Gotta love early days

My Boys from Parr had to be off the water early. 12:00 I love 12:00. I love early days when you get em. We did, hooked 9 by noon, kicked ass, loved it. We cooked some ribs on the heater, got fish, and I made it home to see wife and boys. hell of a trip. Nate and I are tight, best friends, but we are starting to realize that we are getting older. We used to drink a million coors, and still fish, now we go to bed at 9:00. Oh well, god bless age. Being responsible. God damn.

February 16, Fun day

0h am I tired of this god damn computer, I try to type on word so I can spell check the deal, because the blog page does not have spell check. Every time I try that it gets all, well those of you that no me know what happens. Pissed me off. Pissed. Any way we had a great day, cought lots of fish, had lots of sun and lots of water over my bow into nate and marks lapps, down there bibs, and passed there balls to there feet. Thank god it was sunny. My dudes were soaked, so wet that nate had to air out and went down to under britches. I about choked on a piece of fried chicken when nate went boxer style on me.. Any way funny as hell. Mark from signature homes had not been steelhead fishing since he was a little kid, and he kicked ass. He fished well. I think all in all we got 11 and had a few others get away from us, good fishing, like I said lot of fun........ My camera is officially done, I got 3 cloudy photos, and I am done with that until wife gets me a new one.

February 15, Quick trip

today was proof that being able to stay mobile is the only way to go. Book your room one night at a time so that we’re ready to fly at any time. We ended up today going back to Bandon, since my guys want to leave early and get on the road closer to home (understandable). We decided to take it for what it was. The elk was 5.2, which is good, but the last couple days the fishing had been sadness. Plus there was a bit of a crowd. The sixes was high, too high for me, there are fish there, and we found a couple, but it had about 10 boats, and was about 6 inches higher than it was for me on Saturday. Can’t complain about the nice sunny day. Already back to the Umpqua to fish here tomorrow. I am a little concerned though, it's raining and it came up all last night. Must have rained in the Cascades because yesterday was nice and very little rain. Any way let you know how it goes. Oh yea got a new Truck!!!! Thanks wife...

February 14. Road trip, Valentines Day.

Man what a long day, by the way Happy Valentines Day and a special thanks to my mom. I did a desperate call about 8 am for some shopping. Mom took care of it, got an atta boy from the wife, and all is good. Badger won his basketball game, and we got fish. Alls Happy Happy in Russell land. Any way, the Sixes was blown, Elk was double, so was the Coke, but the Umpie was prime. We made a good move and went for a short stretch on the Umpqua and got 10, an awesome day. Mike and Tony tore it up.

Febuary 13, Dirty Bird, Dirty Water, Lots of boats.

50 year old party, went back to the elk, loaded with boats, did the dirty bird, couple fish on the lower end, but scary, and from guys I talked to no Fish up river, ugly, went to sixes afternoon, there were a few fish, we got 3 in the mud, It might have been better than that, but we had some traffic.

Febuary 12, high winds, lots of rain, after-noon rally.

This was my over 50 party, 3 good buddies, Joe Fisher, Larry Crabtree, and Ray, uh, Ray, hell I dont know Rays last name. Any way they have all just turned 50 in the last year. We had a good day, the wind blew like a mother, and pounded rain in the morning. The wind made the rain seem harder than it was. Around 11 oclock, it stopped and we were able to get em. We ended up with 7, good enough for half a river.

Febuary 9,10,11 still going, good fishing

The Last few days have been a blurr. I got a new group of guys in after harris left, and we did the standard, fish every where. We fished sixes, coke, and umpie, got fish in all places. I am beat, we are getting rain tonight so the coast might come up a little. I like it low, no people, and I still manage to get em. The umpqua is fishing good, we will see what this rain does. I have taken a break from the camera man life. you can only take so many damn photos of 6-10 pound fish. I have had good fishing every where I go. More tomorow

February 8, Harris, Scottie, and a few salmon trout.

We decided to fish the elk today. It was clear, way too clear. There was a few fish though. We ended up hooking six.

Scottie got a nice 13-14 pounder, and we got some other nice ones. We only saw one boat. At some point I will take a half dozen fish if it means being alone. We had a nice peaceful day. All in All the steelhead safari was ok, we had a 6 fish average, so not bad.

February 7, bit of a let down.

Man the water was awsome, Perfect color, light pressure, but the fish were off today. We went back to the sixes and went a long way before we got one. We pulled over for a piss break and I put a yarn ball on scottie, just to mix it up. I was hoping to have 3 or 4 by this point. First cast fish, and in classic Harris fashion he says " mabey should have tried yarn sooner". Smart Ass... Any way we got that one and ended up with 5 for the day. It was Ok. Classic deal, I was getting flustrated on the fact that we were not getting em like I had hoped, after we landed our second fish Harris gives me a pep talk. " No matter what, I'm serious. we love you and dont worry bout the fishing, with that said, I am a little dissapointed that we have only 2" This guy is one of a kind.( all in fun)

February 6, Harris, Scottie, Steelhead Safari part 4.

Well, I have a 3 day trip with these boys, and the first day was banner. See Harris needs new water, and lots of fish. I pulled off day one, I took him and Scottie to the upper upper sixes, and had a nice day. The water was a bit goopie, and more volume than I like for up top but we ended up landing 8, and lost a couple others. The bottom seemed to be a bit pounded. I had higher hopes after our start, but I will take those numbers any day of the week.

February 5, Fort bragg boys get a couple nice ones.

This was Jerame and Justins last day. We had a great trip, lots of laughs, Justin is one hell of a funny dude. Any way, a little bit of a bad call on my part. There was a derby going on the umpqua, so it was a little crowded, not chetco crowded, but a half dozen boats around. We ended up going up above the pressure and had a nice day. I think we landed six, with a couple beeing teeners. Right now my camera is on the verge of death, but i got a couple photos

February, 4. Pan A would have been better.

Well Last night I made a plan to go east, but I got a report that the sixes was green, and the elk was 4.8, which is nice, except the 15 boats in front. We put in down low, got one and left. Went to the upper Coke, got 1 and lost 1. I wish I would have gone with my first thought. Sometimes I out think myself. Got to kill em though. My photo turned out like shit. tomorow.

February, 3 wet, lucky.

Today was one of those days. The good Kind. We made all the right calls. In the morning it was pounding rain, and driving to the sixes I was kicking myself. I wanted to go to the North Umpie. The water on the sixes was nice when we started, but it changed, and changed fast. We ended up putting on some yarn balls and going to work. We landed four nice ones before I pulled the plug. After a sandwich, we decided to move over to the elk and pull off the dirty bird. Put in at the botom, and cut in front of the dudes up river. I love it. I hooked 3 more, and got 2. Justin, and Jerame, my dudes from Fort Bragg ended up with 6 of 7. With the conditions the way they were, I was happy. I think we are going to the umpqua tomorow. I would love for the rain to stop, and stop for the rest of the season...

February,2, sneaky, tired

Man I am smoked, another day, another place, and another motel. Been all over the map. The Coke pissed me off yesterday, to crowded. I went south, found peace, and fish. we hooked 10, landed 8, with one salmon. It was nice, never seen another boat, but fished hard. long day, lots of miles, and a few fish. If there had been 4 or 5 boats, it would not have been as good. not much to add, just tired. Love getting them. Dave with a nice chinnook.

Feb, 1 s.coke, crowded

The Coke is crowded, lots of private guys, thats ok. salt of the earth guys. But tough fishing, we got 4 today, missed several, the fish are there, but they are beat down. A few weeks from now the coke will be verry good. Any way I am not sure what we are going to do, I will find fish, no big deal. We have showers coming this week, but water will hold. The umpqua will be my best option soon. Man I am tired, I got a few photos.

January 29, 30,31. All over the place.

Man I just typed this whole report and lost it. Any way, fished the Chetco, sixes and coke the last 3 days. Chetco sucked, got 2, lost one, lots of boats wandering around like sheep. Sixes yesterday, got 7, lost 4. Good day, got a tripple on, lost two, but still cool. Went to the coke today, ran the big water, got em ok, 5 lost 3 others. Eric (fuck face) missed a few, wierd bite, but we did fine for one rod. Will have more tomorow, I hope. I had a nice report befor I lost it, and now I have lost it.

January what ever the hell

Man, I had no Idea how hard it was going to be updating every day. Half the time I have no service, and the other half I am just smoked. Any way the last few days have been a little on the, well you know. Have had good fishing though. Good enough. Yesterday we hooked 9, and landed 6 I think, missed a few, but never seen another boat. Nice, but there is why I am me. I thought I had it dialed, and I did, but with some miss communication and some bad judgment I had a hell of a day. All in all we caught lots of fish, and only had to wait for a couple hours to get out. No biggie. If you want the whole story, give me a call. Went to the Coke today, Crazy, more boats that trees in the state of Oregon. We went way up, but so many bank guys, it was stupid. We got 5, good enough. I have a nice photo with Diana Hawk. I will get back on the horse of updating every day. Going to fish the Chetco tomorrow, Like a day off, no driving.

January 25,26,27.

Dustin apologizes for not having updated in a few days. It’s been a busy few days having to run around all over the map and not always having internet service.

Fishing on the Umpqua continued on the 25 and 26. It wasn't quite as open as it has been, although he ended up landing 3 one day and 5 the next. Yesterday we had a loss, "the net" and I had to go bye a new one so he had to make a bad dash home last night to get the replacement. He was very saddened by the loss of his net and informed me he'd had it longer then he'd had me. If he could have he would have went diving in the water after it.

Today Dustin fished local on the Elk and OUGH NO not just standard Elk fishing. He's got to make it exciting and dramatic. He'll have more details for everyone about the days experience tomorrow. Fishing was really good despite the craziness.

Well I have been in 3 places in 3 days. Fishing has been ok. I went to the My home river on Friday, that was tough. Fishing was spread, ended up with 2 out of 3, but not quite good enough. We just motored around with every one else, and did as good as every one else. I had Ron Timmison, and his buddies, Terry, and Greg. We had a good time, and a nice dinner, (thanks Ron) We fished the sixes, yesterday, and with no pressure, but few fish, we did ok. Landed 7, lost 3 others. We had a triple which doesn’t happen every day. Nice day on the water, but long day.

Today, My buddie Eric (fuck face) and I fished the coke, we went threw the big water, and they bit funny today, all most like smolt bites. We got it figured out and landed 5 out of 7. Not bad for one rod. I got a master plan for tomorrow, should be beat down. Going 20 miles. Daylight till dark, better get em. Here is a few photos from the past couple days.

Fun day, lots of fish, lots of sun, and lots of water coming over my bow. We took a huge wave in colliding rivers. You could have just took a five gallon bucket full of water and dump it on my dudes. Nate got so wet that he had to strip down to undies. Hilarious. Any way I had my best pal, Nate from parr and he brought mark from signature homes for his fist steelhead trip since he was 8. The guy kicked ass, fished great. I think we ended up with 11, and had a few others get away from us. I hope that this nice weather holds up, I am tired of the rain, and I would love to fish the coke real low, like below 500 cfs, so I can pile up some girls before Washington. Any way things are going great, fishing every day, life is good. Oh yea my camera is done, I got 3 more blurry photos, so I am done with photos until the wife gets me a new one.

January 23, North Umpqua

Still, outstanding. We went up a little higher, and found a couple real nice groups of fish. All chrome bright. We ended up collecting quite a few, no real big ones like the days before, but still outstanding. Jack got 7 and lost several, we ended up with 9, and only missed a couple and lost one. The water is getting clear up there, but still nice. We are supposed to get hit tonight and tomorrow, so time will tell. I am going to end up working my way home, might fish sixes if it comes in shape. Reports from home are sad; it’s our own fault. Too much pressure, not enough hatchery fish. You would think with the big Friends of Cal-Or Fish organization, we would have a better handle on things. But no matter, thanks every one for the travel, and as long as you are willing, we will find you the best fishing. Here's a photo from today.

January 22, North Umpqua

Man I don’t no what to say, its been great. I thought about giving my true feelings, its been ************ awesome. Nice fish, Nice******** fish. This whole deal is weird. Normally I fish the QUA, on low flow years. Right now the coast is blown out and the Umpie is stellar. Lots of fish, and big ones. We landed 8 today, missed a few, and lost a few, but no matter. The Dresions from Cali, good dudes, truck drivers, are fishing with Jack, and me and they had a hell of a day. Jack ended up with, 5 or 6,not sure but nice fish all around. We got one pig, I figure it to be 21.5 36.5 buy 21.5. Who knows, but one hell of a steelhead! We did have a nice 15 pounder right to the boat and he got loose from the hook. He sat there for a second, and I gobbled him up. One of the best net jobs I have ever seen. He just chilled for a split second or two, and I got him, it was cool. I took a bow. Any way the coast is still high, elk was at 5.4 in the morning. I got a few photos today.

January 20 and 21 ~Dustin's World Tour

Man what a couple days. Yesterday we headed north (20) everything was shot, blown silly. I got to the west fork of the Millicoma, and it was crystal clear and a desert. No fish two boats. This morning I had high hopes for the Elk, but it didn’t drop like what I thought. I decided to go way up way over way out, and went to the north Umpqua, 2 more hours of driving. It was perfect. Thank god. Every now and then I am wrong, today I was right on. The north was perfect, and we killed them. Not your every day deal though. We had a state cop bust threw the brush, like I was under arrest. He chewed my ass for taking too long to release a fish. (Our photos are of fish in net) The cops in Roseburg don’t mess around. Any way we beat them sideways. Landed 10, lost 3, and missed several. My boys from Parr Lumber (signature builders, and Jim from some roofing company that I cant remember) fished well, we got bit, and bit, and bit, we landed one that I guess to be 19 LBS, and another 15 lbs. Jan 16, 17 wind rain and tourcher, Lehigh style.

Man sorry didn’t update yesterday and sorry it is so late today. No power this afternoon, and yesterday I was just smoked. I had a group of boys from Lehigh Cement Co, over the weekend, and it was creative. First the boys gave me a hard time bout a nickname they made up with a local bar made in town. Which was CAB. That is my new nickname CAB. Good with me. It stands for COCKY ARROGANT BASTARD. Good enough. Any way, work has been tough, yesterday we had fish all around, we hook four, lost a couple, but all in all it was good, wind and rain. The ones we lost hurt the most. Today, was better, way more fish, but way more stress. First MY buddy Jack was with me, and we went sneaky. I thought that Mr. Cab was due and I was, we first lost one just because of a tangle. We missed one then we hooked one and the line exploded because of the tangle before. (My bad) all on me. Next Jackie Boy gets one; it’s the one we just broke off. Their hook was threw the barrel swivel. At least some one made one pay. Any way long story short, we hooked four, landed one. But my boy Jackster hooked 5 and landed 4. Good old fashion ass kicking. I was so pissed that I was ready to run my head through a meat grinder. No wonder I am 29 with ulcers. Humbled tonight. At least it was jack. Photos.

January 15, Happy Birthday Badger, Great fishing Darrel

Man, I can’t believe it's been six years. Man time flies. A lot of my clients remember the day Badger was born. Most of you have watched me grow up, and now my family growing. I'm truly blessed.

Any way enough of that. Today was nice, good old Dustin Darrel Beat down. Well not quite, we have had better days but, today was peaceful, and just enough fish. Darrel fishes a lot of days with me, we spend 10 days a year together, and he has piled up more steelhead fishing with me that any one I know. Last year we fished in Washington for 4 days and landed 54 Steelhead. The guy gets em, but we work at it, and we go the extra mile. Most guys fished the elk, or the smith today. The elk was 4.9 this morning, which is perfect, but a little crowded. Guys got around 3 to 4 per boat. Which is ok. We decided to get sneaky; we fished a little creek up north that has a very small window for perfection. We were all over it. We landed 5 out of 7, with one dandy 36-20, about 18 lbs. Nice fish for a little place. The fish we did get were real solid, nice and bright, and the big boy had some color, but still great shape. So most people if they get 7 on, that’s not bad. We still had plenty of daylight, and made a move to the sixes. We ended up getting a couple more, and losing one more. A real nice day, any time you get to fight 10 fish in a day, you go home happy. January 13, 14. Big, Big Water.

Well sorry I didn't post last night, I haven't felt good lately, so I figured most of you guys watch the weather and new we got smoked. It was a backwards front. It was supposed to hit hard on Monday night, and just showers on tuesday night. Well it was the other way around.

January 12, Wild Cew

This was my crew today, I was working for a buddy of mine but the storm scared off the guys. Today was not the worry, its tomorrow. It takes hours for a river to rise, so if it looks good, and it is supposed to start pounding at midnight you have until 1:00 pm the next day before its all messed up. I had a great day with the Nazis, max and I had breakfast and badger went to school, and then max and I went hunting. Which is great, as long as we have a gun in the truck we are hunting, doesn’t matter, ducks, deer, elk, goose, we are always hunting. Did that until nap time and then back to the little bastards fighting over candy, video games and what ever else they do. But back to the water, the storm was more south, the coke only went to 3.7, which is Ideal, tomorrow on the elk looks good. It crested at 4.7 which is awesome, it will rise a little tomorrow, no biggie, should be good for a week. Love the kids, and fishing is solid, been pleased, should be good for a while, don’t worry about the little shots of rain, with no snow pack the predictions will be off buy a mile.

January 11, Danny Duddy, and Dimbo

Well first all, never give your dudes your nickname when you were a little kid, they will run with it. Vig found great humar the last couple days of saying, ok duddy, right on duddy. We still had a hell of a time. Lots of laughs, and lots of fish. Today was probubly the best day I have had with these two clowns, We had barking dogs, in unison with a goat, in the new named goat creek hole, a couple bumpie rapids, since the water is dropping, and plenty of fish. We went back to the same area as yesterday, and the fish were scattered, and a little shy. The lower end was not crowded at all, Only about 10 boats total, compared to 50 yesterday. See thats what happens when it gets low, it takes a day or so of guys falling on there face to get rid of the pressure. When there is to many boats nobody gets em. Thats why I do what I do. It will fish good down low now that the pressure is lighter. Any way back to our day. The water had cleared a shade from yesterday, and we were kinda on our ass for most of the morning. We only had a couple up above, but yesterday we got most of our fish down low, so I was optomistic. We ended up going threw some stuff that we got fish in yesterday, but it was quiet, then we droped into a place that I fished wrong yesterday. It had changed from prior years, and we went thew it the opposite way yesterday, but it was late we had quite a few fish, and I was trying to make time, but I thought yesterday, probubly should run it again, but I didnt. Some times we blow it, and I almost did it again, but I looked at it, and went the other way. First pass, Double. We went down the creek and there is this wierd concrete, half dam thing that is hard to get over, but the fish made it and we made it, and got em both. So I'm thinking, cool we got 4 now we are stylin, get a few more down stream, lets cruise. But what if there is pile in there? I went with plan B. The boys helped me drag over the concrete dam thing, and it was on. We landed 7 more in 11 passes. It was awsome. The wierd thing about it was 8 of the 9 fish we landed there were Boys, the only girl was wild. No biggie, but 8 of 9 boys? cant say it....... Any way, we ended up with 12 I think. January 10, lower coke crowded, Powers?

Man today was the most crowded I have ever seen the Coke. I guess yesterday was worse. What ever. Any way I droped a rig off in town and went up to put in at 7 mile, when I went by Broadbent there was 15 trailors, and 15 more at 7 mile. Forget that, I am not fishing behind 30 boats. So we made a move and went way up, way over, and way out. It worked my boys had a nice peaceful day with enough fish to even make me feel good. These boys, are probubly my favorite dudes, Vig, and dimbo. I laugh more in these two days than I do all season. If you ever hear me talk about my fireman dude, thats vig, and Dimbo, my boy, the most kind hearted soft big dudeyou ever met. These guys have opposite personalitys, like left and right. Back to fishing, we worked at it. I told the boys that we were going to earn it. We did, we got em, and got em good. We killed 3 hatchery wich was a plesant suprise. I was pleased, Nice fish. Nice to see em on the floor, and vig wants to let every body know #s, He landed 5, and Dimbo landed 4, but lost a nice cromer that got wrapped in a fucking log, god bless the coke. a couple photos of mr cynical, and mr positive. January 9, never needed a fish so bad

Fishing is Fishing, I hate that fucking phrase, but it was wat it was. We found a few fish, had some bites, but it was slim. From the boys that i talked to the smith had gotten tough. Days before, lots of boats, and the fish reacted. But Ron, and mister Charlie Brown, had a good day, we fished hard. I Have a couple photos of the boys, Happy 84th to pops Rich Brown... I am now going to fish the Coquillie for the next couple days, and will have a full up date tomorow. One more thing, Badger (my oldest son) has his first basketball game tomorow, I travel alot to get the best fishing I can for my clients, but I also have missed alot, so to all my guys, thanks for fishing, but we all should think my wife jessica for beeing the missing link.

January 8, man long day, good fishing

Its 10:30 and just now sitting down. Boat was a wreck, and a 3 plus hour drive after work all day will make it a late one. Fished the Eel again with mister fuck face himself Eric Banko, he had a hell of a day, the photos will be mostly of him, and I am going to leave out a few. His partner scott got a couple but it was fuck faces day. Over night the eel droped 400 cubic feet, which isnt much but on that river it apparently is. I was shocked, It cleaned up about two shades, and the volume of water seemed like half. I guess it is just so wide and flat that a little seemed like alot. I actually learned alot the last two days. But who cares what I learned. Any way the fish bit, we caught, didnt kill (catch and release) and had a awsome day. Going to stay local tomorow, the smith is still ok, so I will let you know. January 7, First real road trip, Eel River

The Eel, was beautiful today, that place is a trip. One of the most dynamic dranages i have ever been aroud. It is the only place simmilar to the umpqua with probubly 100 fishable miles of river. The only problem is its a mud hole. It takes weeks to clean up, and even today was on the dirty side, and a little whoosy. Not a bad day though we got 3, missed a few bites, for what it was it was fine. Eric Banko and his friend Mike got a couple nice photos. I am going to fish here tomorow then I will head back up north. Some fish Finally showed up on the chetco I guess guys got a couple a boat. Screw that, but good enough for some. Also some fish have showed on the lower end of the Elk and Sixes. The last week all the fish were up top, so new ones means time for the Duster to get sneeky. We are going to have solid fishing this season, and after this trip south we will head north to my happy killing grounds. Here are couple photos from today. Jan 5, same boys Different Story

We had a hell of a day. One of the last places that I love to go, and people don't. Fishing was fair, we landed 5, lost 1 missed a few, the few we missed we got on the 3rd or 4th pass later. A nice performance for my rice farmers. Dane and Zane, how nice is that to remeber. From now on I need peoples names to ryme. The boys fished there ass of for me and it worked out. Fishing is not what I would say is good, it's tough, but the pressure is light, so we rack em up. I have herd that the smith is good. So yes I am going to the smith river during steelhead season buy Choice.

No more new year, new fish.

Well we are at it, Fising is fine, we got four today, lost a couple, missed a couple. Good day.We had some traffic on the Elk, but nothing like I thought, the fish were all up high with a few stragglers down below. I think that things are about to bust loose. There are plenty of fish up north, and with a few more places comeing into shape we should start beating the hell out of em. As you can tell I am writing the reports and not Jess. So forgive my what ever. A couple dead ones from the elk Dane and Zane, couple of good beer drinking dudes.

Happy New Year!!-January 1, 2010

Wow, yesterday was amazing. It was blowing and pounding rain, we got on the water before it really got nasty and took advantage of what was there.

Chuck Mansel and his son David fished with us for 2 days. The first day was torcher when Dustin decided to take a gamble which didn't pay off. They ended up only catching some half pounders, but people dont fish with us to catch half pounders. So with a rebound in mind they headed north and did outstanding for the conditions. With the wind blowing and the rain falling and in between gust they were able to land four beautiful Steelhead and had a few other shots at some. Also Pops (Dustin's dad) took our great friend Dave Lundsford out and caught two others, not bad for a half days work.

The rain took over, amazing what 12 hours of rain will do. We awoke this morning to the Chetco at 38,000 cfs when yesterday it was at only 3,000 and the Elk yesterday was at 3.9 feet and jumped to almost 3 times the size coming it at 10.6 feet. Unbelievable!!

We have a few days off and will be back at it on Monday.

Lower Chetco River. Not to fishable!

Wind, wet, rain. The last two days have been crazy, high winds, and heavy rain. Not quite the rain that we thought though. The elk was good yesterday, with a level of 4.8. And the smith hovered around 17 ft. So there were plenty of options out there. I elected to shift some dates and moved my guys back till the end of the month where I had a hole. Could have gone sneaky today, but will save it for later. Any way the next couple days will be high and tough, should be able to get a fish or two though. And hopefully the spell check works.
